Therapeutic Alliance With V ( Cbt ) - 1275 Words

Therapeutic Alliance with V (CBT) What is really interesting about the intake process, and what it looks like at my field placement. A pre-plan is a billable service that the electronic medical record takes into account for an intake appointment. The pre-plan is a therapist and consumer’s first insight into what the consumer wants to gain from this alliance, the desired optimal result to be reaped from this connection. It is my view that this person-centered planning approach goes beyond rapport building and actually begins the construction of a therapeutic alliance or bond (Bordin, 1979). I was present for V’s pre-plan where he gave us a brief overview of his goals and the tasks that he felt that he was comfortable and confident he could carry out with the support of his family and new therapist (MacEwan, 2008). The pre-plan prompted questions like, â€Å"What are you good at? What are some strengths you have?† He answered with a full-on smile about how great he was at video games, listening, r eading, using his hands to make or fix things. V’s aunt could not help but agree and added additional information including that he is a whiz at all kinds of electronics and appliances. The other clinician, myself, and this family talked about books and even found some standards that we all liked in common. The camera pans to the son as he visualizes himself in his dad’s shoes. The dad then explains to his son when he got to work his boss had told him â€Å"the project he had been working on for a year was canceled. † You see the son coloring a picture as his boss takes it away and rips it up, the camera then pans back to the child’s distraught face. The dad and the son are back at the table and the dad states that â€Å"Jell-O pudding makes up for all of that. The son looks at his dad and hands him his pudding, â€Å"here, you need this more than me† (Jell-O pudding) Jell-Co’s goal was to achieve the audience of fathers and sons in this specific advertisement. They had shown the father’s everyday life through the eyes of his child associating both roles in the commercial. The advertisement proves to be ethos relating the fathers depicted day to a typical fathers everyday life. The Jell-O In the commercial Is used to portray their pudding as a stress reliever and It â€Å"makes up for al of that† relative to the fathers bad day. At the end of the commercial the child hands his father the Jell-O after visualizing the day his dad had at work, this held the audience hostage to the adorable child generously giving his hardworking father his one Jell-O pudding snack using the pathos affect. The sole purpose of the commercial was to motivate the buyer to buy Jell-O products because it relieves all of their stress and puts them in a better mood. Jell-O makes the audience think of their horrible day at work and how they could relate to the ether and son. They do so in the commercial by causing them to feel like they need the pudding to relieve their stress and believe that It actually works. When the father states that â€Å"l love Jell-O† and begins telling his son about his day and because of the connection fathers have with his circumstance they would want to feel the same way the father in the commercial did after eating the pudding. The tone that is portrayed day of work and with the imagery of a child with the leading hairlines, driving wrought traffic and working is quite comical. The horrible day the father had depicted the depressing side of a typical fathers’ daily life giving an upsetting tone to the commercial. Jell-O had sold its product effectively to the father and son audience through real life situations but lacked in visuals of the pudding. The advertiser exceeded in adhering to their targeted audience and including both ethos and pathos effect grabbing the viewer’s attention with laughter and misery which is an effective way of eating a buyer to adhere to their product. People may see the product as delicious because the father said he â€Å"loves Jell-O† but, the advertisement does not say why he loves it or shows in detail the product itself to get a visual idea of what the buyers are going to be eating. Overall the commercial was successful in fulfilling their objective of portraying a realistic environment to grab the father and son audience for their product, Jell-O pudding. Overcoming My Difficult Past Essay Lacking severe self-confidence is the biggest barrier I have to face for many years. I think it is because among the three children in my family, I am the oldest to my younger sister and brother, my mom is always strict on me. If I did something wrong, even if it is the slightest thing, she will scold me hard, telling me not to do this and not to do that. Like I remember one time, I got a C- on math quiz. The moment my mom saw the red numbers on the test sheet, her eyes turned red. She would head to the shoes cabinet or kitchen and walk towards me with a thick stick or pipe, and she would start yelling at me and hit me, after hitting the red marks would â€Å"climb’’ across and over my arms and legs. My parents think that it is a must that I do things right, so they seldom and almost never encourage or eulogize me when I did a good job on my projects or even getting straight As on exams or midterms. The hitting and scolding made me feel that I could not do anything right, and I can never satisfied my parents a little bit only to get a tiny compliment for them. I think one of the reason that I am short of not having a persevering heart to do things is because I think that I can not do things right. Due to not getting people’s compliments often, so even when I did things right, it does not seem right to me, I always feel there are still things I could better or maybe there are some things needed to fix. The classic example of lacking a persevering heart when facing challenges of me is to lose weight. Because I am a premature birth child, neither can I be too overweight or underweight, it is bad for my physical conditions. I have lost 10 kilos so far, but due to the pressure of schoolwork and the pressure I have to face at home, I tend to eat much more to release them, when eating it would make me feel better. And so now I gained 10 plus 1 kilo back. My mom always say the biggest reason that I can not be as slim as I was used to is because that I can not control my mouth and my heart was not resolute enough. Whenever I wanted to star learning things like playing the piano or drawing, I would be enthusiastic at the first couple of days, but the enthusiasm fade away over some times then it would be difficult for me to keep learning them. Having negative thoughts before facing challenges is a common thing that my friends would notice when they get to know me. I always think of the worst that might happen to me, so I think that is why I tend to have bad thoughts even when the assignments were as easy as a piece of cake, the kind that could be done in a few days. As I said before, my parents hit and shout at me whenever I do things the wrong way. When doing assignments, no matter it is from school or just small activities I do with my friends at free time, I would think as if I did it wrong my mom would be holding the thick stick and pipe waiting for me at home. The bruising and marks from the smacking cause the negative thoughts to grow inside of me. When I face difficulties or challenges, a small whispering voice would appeared in my head saying I have to do it right or else the stick will be waiting to serve you at home. Or it would say it is just that easy and you cannot even get it right. It has been a big problem for a long time. My bad habit has invaded my life, and it has affected the way how I see myself and having problems facing people and challenges. Because lacking severe self-confidence makes me demean myself, there were times that I could not face people and see there eyes directly. Not having a persevering heart to do things, this bad habit will stop me from doing a lot of things even reaching my dreams. The Free Will Controversy Essays (1768 words) - Desiderius Erasmus

The Free Will Controversy Between the years of 1524 and 1527, Erasmus Desiderius and Martin Luther were tangled up in an interesting controversy (Bainton 187). This controversy surprisingly did not involve the authority of the pope, the nature of the church, indulgences, or any of the other practices that each man equally detested. It involved the philosophical topic regarding the question of free or enslaved will (Faulkner 171). Preserved Smith defines free will as the power to apply ones self to the things that make for salvation (348). This controversy was bound to happen for a number of reasons. First of all, Luther was becoming violent in his words and actions in general. Secondly, Luther made himself a target by his assertion in the Heidelberg Disputation of 1518. Luther's exact words were, "Free will, after the fall, even when doing the best it can, commits a mortal sin." These two factors led Erasmus to speak out against Luther in De Libero Artitrio (On Free Will). Luther eventually answered back furiously in De Servo Arbitrio (On Enslaved Will) (Bainton 186-7). This was a superior work which explains to historians why Luther prevails in the end (Zweig 139). Erasmus was one of the most intelligent people of his century. Today however, he remains in the minds of most people as nothing more than another name (Zweig 3). In his time, he was the leader of all scholars in Europe from Germany to Italy and Spain and from England to Hungary as well. He stands above the other humanists and forerunners of the reformation (Schaff 402). His great mission was to bring back the spirit of classical and Christian Antiquity (Smith 33-4). Preserved Smith describes the first part of his life, specifically until 1524, as being "progressive and reformatory;" the second, until his death in 1536, he says was, "conservative and reactionary" (402). He is described as being somewhat of a nomad, never staying in the same place for more than eight years (48). Compared to his contemporaries, Erasmus did more than his share in preparing the church for the reformation (Schaff 402). Historians refer to Erasmus as the, "illegitimate" son of a Dutch priest named Gerard, and Margaret (Schaff 404). He was born in Rotterdam on October 27, in the 1466 or 1467 (Faulkner 30). He received his early education at Utrecht and then at Deventer where he began to impress people with his talents. Within him was a love was a passion for books and at the age of just 12, he knew Horace and Terence by memory (Schaff 404). When his father died, he was taken care of by three guardians. Their goal was to have him become a priest which gave them the power to rob him of his inheritance. They placed him in the house of the Brethren of the Common Life at Hertogenbusch. While there, Erasmus calls their houses as, "seminaries of monasticism," and refers to their teachers as a, "destruction to good intellect." They did not come close to destroying Erasmus's intellect. A few years later, his guardians convinced him to enter a monastery. He entered the Augustinian monastery against his will wh ere he would spend five extremely unhappy years (Faulkner 323). After this, Erasmus went on to achieve his fame in doing the things he always wanted to do (Schaff 407-9). Despite the fact that Erasmus and Luther had many difference, there were ways in which they were similar. Both of them advocated a return to antiquity and an excitement for the golden age of Christianity and pagan Rome. They both had an interest in revolts against the mediaeval scholasticism. Another similarity lies in their child-hoods. They were both born into an era of individualism. Also, they grew up in cities that had recently developed in the same bourgeois class (Smith 321). Many differences between these two men led to their quarrel. Some of these differences were physical. Luther was the son of a minor. This along with his inborn energies made him the rougher of the two. Luther is quoted as saying, "I gorge like a Bohemian and gulp down my liquor like a German" (Zweig 132). Luther also spoke in a powerful German voice that was full of vigor (133).
